Education

Improving health outcomes starts with supporting the people delivering care.

Health care transformation doesn’t happen without people, and right now, those people are under strain.

Clinicians are facing rising burnout. Communities are navigating growing mental health needs. And too often, the tools and training to respond aren’t accessible when they’re needed most.

NCMSF invests in education initiatives that strengthen the workforce, address critical gaps like clinician well-being and access to care, and equip communities with the tools to respond to real-world health challenges.

From suicide prevention to value-based care transformation, our programs are designed to be practical, scalable, and grounded in the needs of North Carolina communities.

Suicide Prevention Workshop

Investing in the People Driving Change

In communities across North Carolina, conversations about mental health are often delayed or avoided altogether while clinician burnout and suicide risk continue to rise.

The Let’s Talk initiative, led by the Old North State Medical Society (ONSMS) and supported by NCMSF, exists to change that—reducing stigma, increasing awareness, and making it easier to seek and offer help.

The partnership between NCCPRW and ONSMS was built to address urgent challenges:

  • Rising suicide risk among health professionals
  • Persistent stigma around mental health
  • Limited access to culturally responsive resources
  • Barriers to seeking help early

When ONSMS launched Let’s Talk, NCMSF, through NCCPRW, joined as a strategic partner to expand its reach through education and training.

Together, they deliver Real Talk: Navigating Life’s Hard Moments Together—a practical, evidence-based training grounded in the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) model.

These sessions equip clinicians, care teams, and community members to recognize warning signs, have direct conversations, and connect people to support.

The CARE Equation webinar series

NCMS Foundation through NCCPRW translates awareness into action. Focused on clinician burnout and workplace stressors, these sessions provide practical, evidence-based strategies to identify practical solutions, support colleagues, and strengthen team well-being. Designed for health care professionals across North Carolina, the series equips participants to drive both personal resilience and system-level change—improving care for those who deliver it and those who receive it.
