Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders
Preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to lead with confidence, collaboration, and purpose.
About the Program
The Future Healthcare Leaders (FHL) program is a seven-month leadership development experience designed for graduate healthcare students preparing to enter a complex, team-based healthcare environment. Through an interactive and participatory learning model, students build foundational leadership skills in communication, collaboration, and self-awareness, while beginning to define their identity as healthcare leaders.
Participants engage with peers across disciplines and institutions, gaining exposure to diverse perspectives that reflect the realities of modern healthcare. The program emphasizes understanding individual leadership styles, strengthening interpersonal effectiveness, and developing the confidence to contribute meaningfully within teams.
Since 2003, the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation has invested in leadership as a critical component of quality care. What began as the Kanof Institute for Clinician Leadership has evolved into the Academy for Healthcare Leaders, now encompassing Future, Advanced, and Executive programs. As part of the Academy for Healthcare Leaders, FHL sits within a broader pathway that supports professionals from early training through executive leadership, helping build a stronger, more connected healthcare workforce across North Carolina.
